Local Profile – Don Brickett


Don was born in Parry Sound where he attended elementary and secondary schools. He earned a B.A. from Queen's and a B.Ed. from North Bay Teachers' College (now Nipissing College) and an M.Sc. Ed. from Niagara University in the U.S.A.

Don's teaching career took him to Midland, Oakville, Parry Sound, and Mississauga as a classroom teacher of Science, Phys. Ed., and English, and finally as Vice Principal. He spent 25 years as Principal of Senior Public Schools, K-8, K-6, and French Immersion schools.

Don joined the Clarkson Rotary Club in 1972; the name was later changed to Mississauga West. He was President in 1983. He relocated to Parry Sound in 1996, and joined the Rotary Club of Parry Sound. He served as President in 2000-01. Don continues to refinish his house and enjoys cruising Georgian Bay in 'Rubato'.

Outside of Rotary, Don is active in the Anglican Church. He has devoted much time and effort as President of the now-failed Trinity Place Seniors' Project. His hobbies include skiing and skating.

Don is married to Kasie, and they have two sons – Jonathan, working for the Coast Guard in Sarnia ; and Gregory, A Civil Engineering working for Zenon Corporation.
